Pieces that last through the early months
When you give something to a newborn, you're not just giving a garment: you're giving a first softness that parents will keep for years. Every piece in this collection — cardigan, jumpsuit, blanket — is made from fine merino wool, spun by Fonty mill, holder of the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. Soft, supple, breathable and naturally temperature-regulating, this wool is particularly well suited to baby's first garments.
The pieces are knitted in France, in small batches, with particular attention paid to the quality of the knit and the finishes. When designs include boxwood buttons, these are made in the Jura. Hats and booties are hand-knitted in France.
Giving a gift without knowing the parents' exact preferences
Are you giving a gift without knowing whether the parents prefer cardigans or pullovers, light tones or richer colours? A timeless piece fits easily into any layette. A Zouzou cardigan accompanies baby's first outfits; a Tatou blanket wraps baby in their parents' arms, goes along on pushchair outings, and remains useful long after the first few weeks.
Our gift sets bring together several coordinated pieces to create a complete gift. If you'd rather let the parents choose for themselves, the gift card allows them to select the pieces, sizes and colours that suit them best.
Which size to give?
Mistricotine sizes take into account baby's height and weight. Size 1 month corresponds to approximately 54 cm and 4 kg; size 3 months to approximately 60 cm and 5 to 6 kg. When you don't know baby's exact measurements, choosing a size intended for the weeks ahead can be simpler than a very small newborn size.
Detailed correspondences — height, weight, head circumference and foot length — are available in our size guide.
A gift prepared with care
Are you giving before or after the birth? Any order placed before noon is dispatched the same day, excluding weekends and public holidays. You can also add a personalised message free of charge, written on a Mistricotine card.
Not sure which pieces to choose? The layette sets bring together coordinated garments and accessories to create a harmonious gift. The Bonheur set, for example, gathers several pieces designed to accompany baby's first days.
A making you can talk about
Every piece is part of a traceable French production. The wool is spun in Creuse by Fonty mill, founded in the 19th century and holder of the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label. The mill also has a water treatment plant for dyeing water. The knitting and making of the layettes are carried out in Île-de-France by our French workshops, specialists in knitwear.
Linking by fully-fashioned seaming consists of picking up the knit stitches one by one to achieve refined finishes. When designs include boxwood buttons, these are made in the Jura. Hats and booties, meanwhile, are hand-knitted in France.
This traceability is part of the gift: you're not just giving a garment, but also French craftsmanship whose different stages are identified.
Pieces designed to be passed on
Mistricotine merino wool benefits from a Superwash treatment that makes it easier to care for and helps limit felting. Pieces are machine-washable at 30 °C maximum, on a wool or delicate programme, ideally in a washing bag, then dried flat.
The quality of the fibre, the care taken with the knit and finishes, and proper care help preserve the softness and shape of the garments for longer. A piece worn and loved can thus be kept as baby grows and then, when well cared for, passed on to another child.

What newborn gift should I choose for a baby boy?
A cardigan, a pair of booties, a blanket or a coordinated gift set are thoughtful, useful gifts that parents will appreciate, while accompanying baby through his early months.
Is merino wool suitable for a newborn's skin?
Yes. Finer than regular wool, merino wool offers a soft, supple feel that is especially gentle on a newborn's delicate skin. It respects sensitive skin and is well suited to first garments worn close to baby.
Can I give a wool piece in summer?
Yes. Merino wool is naturally thermoregulating: it helps retain warmth when it's cool while allowing air to circulate when the temperature rises. In summer, a lightweight cardigan or sweater can be useful in the morning, evening, during travel or in air-conditioned spaces. Simply adjust the layers to the actual temperature.
How is the gift wrapped?
Every order is presented in a lovely fabric pouch. A gift box is included with orders over 90 €. You can also add a personalised message at no charge, written on a Mistricotine card tucked inside the parcel. Your gift arrives beautifully prepared, ready to give or send directly to the parents. Orders placed before noon are dispatched the same day.
